# 10 Defining The Gospel (Part 3)
By Pastor Bill
In Matthew 9:35, “Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.” Notice that it was the gospel of the kingdom that Jesus preached. The gospel of the kingdom was more than just sharing the four spiritual laws about salvation. The gospel of the kingdom included teaching, proclaiming, and healing every kind of sickness. Many today call it the “full gospel” because it includes the supernatural ministry of the Holy Spirit – healing and deliverance.
In Matthew 10:7-8, Jesus sent out the twelve disciples and gave them the following mandate. “And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.” Notice that the gospel that Jesus commanded His disciples to teach was not just telling people that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, that they must confess their sins, and confess Jesus to be their Savior. The gospel that Jesus commanded them to preach included healing the sick, raising the dead, cleansing the lepers, and casting out demons. It was the same gospel of the kingdom that He preached and practiced in His earthly ministry.
This gospel is a powerful gospel. This gospel requires faith. This gospel requires an anointing from the Holy Spirit. I like the way that Paul mentions His preaching of the gospel to the Corinthians. He said, that he did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom…my message and my preaching was not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.” (See 1 Corinthians 2:1-5.)
Father, may we be a church that does not rely on persuasive words of wisdom or superiority of speech. May we be a church that preaches the gospel with a demonstration of Spirit and power. May we be a church that is full of Your Spirit and full of faith. May we be a church that is compassionate to those who are hurting and sick, and bold to pray for them. Father, help us to be a church that preaches the gospel of the kingdom. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
