Various Ways of Worship, Part 6

by Pastor Bill

WorshipThe Bible explains that worship is any act of love, submission and honor that is given to God to glorify Him. Our relationship with Him through Jesus Christ gives us this privilege. It involves each part of us — the use of spirit, soul and body in worship. David wrote in Psalm 103:1, “Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me bless His holy name.” Our scriptural Worship can be expressed in a variety of ways:

  • “Come before Him with joyful singing.” Psa 100:2
  • “Sing praises to God, Sing praises.” Psa 47:6

  • “O Clap your hands, all peoples.” Psa 47:1
  • “And the trees of the field will clap their hands.” Is 55:12

  • “O clap your hands, all peoples; Shout to God with the voice of joy.” Psa 47:1
  • “Shout joyfully to God, all the earth; Sing the glory of His name; Make His praise glorious.” Psa 66:1-2

Kneeling and Bowing

  • “Come, let us worship and bow down, Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.” Psa 95:6
  • “Because He is your Lord, bow down to Him.” Psa 45:11

Lifting hands

  • “I will lift up my hands in Thy Name.” Psa 63:4
  • “Lift up your hands in the sanctuary.” Psa 134:2

  • “Let them praise His name with dancing.” Psa 149:3
  • “Praise Him with timbrel and dancing.” Psa 150:4

Singing in tongues

  • “I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also.” 1 Cor 14:15
  • “For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God.” Ac 10:48

Falling down before Him

  • “The twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and will worship Him who lives forever and ever, and will cast their crowns before the throne, saying,”  Rev 4:10
  • “And the four living creatures kept saying, “Amen.” And the elders fell down and worshiped.” Rev 5:14

  • “Be still and know that I am God.” Psa 46:10
  • “Be silent before the Lord God.” Zeph 1:7
