Worship The Lord – Worship in Holy Array – Part 2

Worship in Holy Array – Part 2

by Pastor Bill

Last week we saw that worship is about the Lord. Many times we make it about what we want or how we want it. In Psalm 50, God tells us how He wants us to worship. Since it is about Him and to Him, it only makes sense that we do worship the way He wants it.

In verse one, we are exhorted to “Praise the LORD! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty expanse.” The Hebrew word for sanctuary that is used is qodesh, which means holiness. The sanctuary was where the ark of the covenant was. It was the presence of the Lord. It was a sacred and holy place. In the New Testament, we find that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. (See 1 Corinthians 3:16 and 6:19.) We are the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. We carry the presence of the Lord within us. We should be praising the Lord in our temples. Wherever we are, we have the temple of the Lord with us, and should be worshiping in that temple.

The Lord tells us to “praise Him in His mighty expanse.” That means everywhere. We do not have to be at our church facility to worship Him. We can worship Him as we drive to work. We can worship Him as we take a walk  and see the mountains that He has created. We can worship Him as we look at the stars at night. No matter where we are, we are in His mighty expanse.

In 1 Chronicles 16:29, we are commanded to “ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; bring an offering, and come before Him; worship the LORD in holy array.” Notice that we are to worship the Lord in holy array. David repeats this in Psalms 29:2. The same Hebrew word, qodesh, is used for holy. For us to worship the Lord in holiness or in holy array, our temples must be holy. That is why Paul wrote to the Corinthians. They had strife and immorality in the church. He wanted them to see that they were the temple of the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit cannot dwell in sin. They needed to repent so that they could worship in holy array.

To be worshipers in holy array, we must be quick to confess and repent of our sins. If we are going to worship everywhere we go, we must always be dressed in holy array. As we come together in holy array for corporate services, we will see more of His presence and glory. More importantly, we will be worshiping the Lord the way He wants to be worshiped.
