Worship the Lord – Warfare by Praise – Part 13

Warfare by Praise – Part 13

by Pastor Bill

Spiritual Warfare In 2 Chronicles 20, the sons of Moab and Ammon, and the Meunites came to make war with Jehoshaphat. He became afraid, but then responded wisely. He turned his attention to seek the Lord, proclaimed a fast, and sought help from the Lord. Fasting and prayer are key components to spiritual warfare.

(2 Chron 20:1-4) Now it came about after this that the sons of Moab and the sons of Ammon, together with some of the Meunites, came to make war against Jehoshaphat.{2}Then some came and reported to Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, out of Aram and behold, they are in Hazazon-tamar (that is Engedi).” {3} Jehoshaphat was afraid and turned his attention to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. {4}So Judah gathered together to seek help from the LORD; they even came from all the cities of Judah to seek the LORD.

Then, the Lord responded to their prayers and fasting. The Holy Spirit came upon Jaziel and told them not to fear, and that the battle was not their battle, but it belonged to God.

(2 Chron 20:14-15) Then in the midst of the assembly the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel…thus says the LORD to you, ‘Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s.

The next morning they went out as directed by the Lord. Jehoshaphat appointed those who sang to the Lord and those who praised the Lord in holy attire to go out before the army. As they went out and praised the Lord, the Lord set ambushes against their enemies and they destroyed themselves. Their praise and worship was part of the warfare that they waged.

(2 Chron 20:21-22)“When he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who sang to the LORD and those who praised Him in holy attire, as they went out before the army and said, “Give thanks to the LORD, for His lovingkindness is everlasting.” {22} When they began singing and praising, the LORD set ambushes against the sons of Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; so they were routed.”

Lord, we acknowledge that the battle belongs to you. Help us to seek Your face by prayer and fasting. Help us to wait upon You for specific instructions about our part in the battles we face. Speak to us and reveal Your plans to us. Help us to be a people that praises and worships You. In the midst of battle, help us to prioritize our praise and worship. “Let the high praises of God be in their (our) mouth, And a two-edged sword in their (our) hand.” (Psalm 149:6) We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
