Worship The Lord – Worship With Offerings Part 24

Worship With Offerings Part 24

By Pastor Bill

In 1 Chronicles 16, David had just moved the ark of the covenant into the tent that he had pitched for it. Then, he offered burnt offerings and peace offerings to the Lord. Next, he distributed loaves, meat and cakes to everyone in Israel. He wanted this to be a time of celebration. Then, he appointed some of the Levites to celebrate and to thank and praise the Lord God of Israel. In verse seven, he specifically assigns Asaph and his relatives to give thanks to the Lord. Verses eight through thirty-six are titled as a Psalm of Thanksgiving. Verses thirty-seven through forty-two are titled Worship Before the Ark.

The first thing that David did was to offer burnt and peace offerings to the Lord. When people came to worship the Lord, they brought something with them to offer to the Lord. Some of the offerings were for their sins. Other offerings were for peace. Other offerings were just to bless and honor the Lord. They did not just show up to the temple and worship. It took some time, thought, and effort to bring these offerings to the Lord.

(1 Chr 16:1-2)  “And they brought in the ark of God and placed it inside the tent which David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God. {2} When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.”

In verse 29, David tells us to ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name and to bring an offering and come before Him, and worship the Lord in holy array. Part of bringing glory and honoring the Lord is with our offerings. Worship was not just singing some songs; it was an offering of our livestock and grain. It was an offering of our wealth and our lives.

(1 Chr 16:29) “Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; bring an offering, and come before Him; worship the LORD in holy array.”

Father, we want to be a church that worships You and ascribes to You the glory due Your name. We want to be a church that brings our offerings when we come before You to worship You. Help us learn to be generous with our offerings. Help us to come prepared to bring offerings. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
